Caroline visited our cafe and normally 99.99999999999999 percent of the time I dislike people hitting us up. This is by design on my part as I get hit up a lot and I don't have any time to waste on being nice to sales people. But Caroline was persistent and managed to catch me at the cafe. Her story and effort was part of that 1% that makes relationships like this potentially special. This is her and her brothers farm. She brought the coffee from Colombia and was driving around trying to sell it to all the roasters in the area. Normally - i'll be brutally honest - coffees that arrive to us like this are pretty bad. But her's was really good.Really really good. One of those gem's you really look for at importers. I gave her some contact info so she might hook up with importers for next year as we ended up buying a large supply. I'm hopeful this connection is able to continue.
So what is the coffee like? Well, again as I said normally things are bad so my expectations were extremely low. What I found about this coffee is that it was well produced as in very few defects, nothing abnormal about the cup, and a lot of expected notes from a good "generalized" colombian coffee. That got me excited. Think of previously Pal Michael or the Anei. Toasted, Caramels, burnt sugars/brown sugar. Stuff I like in a cup of coffee as an everyday coffee. I haven't tried this as espresso but I'm told it was nice. Just a good cup of coffee and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
